Shane,

Why on earth am I urinating during sex?

Urinating during sex may be reassuringly common but it can still be incredibly embarrassing.

There are varying degrees of the problem but most women will only excrete a thimbleful of urine. Very few women will ever experience the unwanted leap into full blown watersports (that's where couples include urination as part of their love making, in case you're wondering).

Urinating during sex is generally caused by nerves in the bladder telling your brain that it's time to go to the toilet even when you don't need to or obviously particularly want to.

Fortunately, in most cases the problem can be solved by taking a few simple precautions. First, don't drink too much in the hours leading up to sex, particularly tea, coffee and alcohol. Secondly, if possible, got to the toilet immediately before you get between the sheets. And thirdly, try to avoid sexual positions where you feel the most pressure on your bladder.

However, if these tips are not sufficient you can ask your doctor for incontinence medication which can be taken just before sex to guarantee a night of excitement and passion rather than one of embarrassment and self consciousness.
