Lady GaGa: The Fame

 by: GothicMixx

Now unless you have been stuck in the desert or on the moon, chances are that lately you will have heard of this
young woman. It's not often that you get a breath of fresh air in the female pop genre as most of it sounds all same-same to the non caring listener. Lady GaGa breezes in like a fresh blast after happily smashing the windows in for you. Sounds like an excessive comment doesn't it? Not really, when compared to her peers such as Madonna or Britney, or even dare I say Gwen Stephani, Lady GaGa stands herself apart with an eclectic mix of glamour and energy laying down some tracks that are destined to be Club hits for some time. Given the range of potential top ten hits that are on this Debut album alone, I suspect we will be hearing from the Lady a lot this year. Her Music style is as out front as her glamorous dress style making her stage performances something to watch as well. Look up her music on Youtube, have a listen, and make Lady GaGa part of your 2009 Dance Collection.

About the Author: GM is slightly deaf in one ear, which explains why he says "Huh?" a lot. Despite this he enjoys his music, and can be found singing in the shower often forgetting that his voice travels through walls.

The Gal's Picks

by: GothicMixx

Writing for a woman’s e-zine is something that comes as a surprise to me. Obviously there’s a perspective I’m lacking. But thankfully I’m able to call and ask a few gal pals of what their picks would be of movies for a girl’s night in would be. Here’s what they chose.

Twilight
Coming soon to DVD is this tale of supernatural love. Girl moves to small town, Girl meets Boy, Boy is a vampire. This movie and the book it’s based on are a worldwide sleeper hit. This movie alone has generated such interest in the books that a lot of places sold out of the entire series the week after its release. Great movie and a definite for the list.

Pretty Woman
To be honest I didn’t see that one coming when I asked but let’s think about it for a moment. At its core it’s the classic Cinderella movie. For a movie released 19 years ago (man I feel old), it still holds up well. Who cannot love a happy ending?

The Notebook
According to my gal pals this is THE ultimate chick flick movie. They all saw it and all recommend it as the movie to watch and a DVD to get. But as a warning they say prepare yourself and have the tissues ready because you will cry. Why you would go see a flick you know will make you cry is something I don’t get. But I’m a guy... “it’s a girl thing” so I was told.

The Notebook is an epic love story centered around an older man who reads aloud to an older, invalid woman whom he regularly visits. From a faded notebook, the old man's words bring to life the story about a couple who is separated by World War II, and is then passionately reunited, seven years later, after they have taken different paths. Though her memory has faded, his words give her the chance to relive her turbulent youth and the unforgettable love they shared

Marley and Me
Also coming soon to DVD. Having seen this one myself I would have to say yes I agree with this pick as one to watch. Just about everyone has at one point owned a pet with a character beyond belief. So what does a couple do with “the world’s worst dog”? Love him of course. It’ll make you laugh and cringe and cry. As well as give you a warm fuzzy that can only come from shared memories or memories of a loved pet.

Step Up 2-The Streets
I‘ve seen this one to, and I agree whole heartedly. This is a phenomenal piece of work. This is a classic fitting movie, new girl moves to a school were she seems out of odds with the pecking order until she meets that one person who can help her not only bridge that divide but STOMP on it. With some of the most high-energy dancing I have seen in a long time. With a hot soundtrack that goes with it, this is one to see.

The only thing that can top a good night out is an even better night in, so commandeer the couch , call in the girls, send the guys elsewhere, stoke up the popcorn and drinks and have a great night in.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

A Manhattan shopaholic (Isla Fisher) whose buying sprees have buried her in immense debt lands a columnist gig dishing out financial advice in this Touchstone comedy based on Sophie Kinsella's series of books. P.J. Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding) directs, with producing duties being handled by Jerry Bruckheimer. Rebecca Bloomwood (Fisher) can't seem to break her habit for making impulsive purchases, and while she's always decked out in the latest styles, her credit card bills are as thick as a telephone book. If Rebecca could somehow manage to land her dream job at a high-profile fashion magazine, perhaps she could transform what is now a simple addiction into something that could really benefit her professionally. When Rebecca becomes an advice columnist at a financial magazine published by the same company as her favorite fashion magazine, her fresh approach strikes a chord with readers and she quickly becomes the toast of the town. Meanwhile, her bank account is still bone dry, wreaking havoc on her love life and placing her career in jeopardy. As Rebecca teeters on the brink of bankruptcy, she gradually begins to reassess her priorities in life.
